English students score successes in USA

Channel Islander Olivia Jordan-Higgins has just claimed her fourth top-five finish of the season on the US women’s college circuit.

The 22-year-old from Royal Jersey shared fourth place among 75 players in the Lady Jaguar tournament at the Forest Hills course at Augusta, Georgia. Despite difficult conditions she had rounds of 74, 74 and 76 for a total of 224 over the par 72, 5878-yard course.

Olivia is a student at Charleston Southern University, South Carolina, and was the top scorer for her team. Her achievements have recently been recognised with her 12th  Big South Conference Golfer of the Week award.

Clara Leathers (Ellesborough and Middle Tennessee State) shared 16th place in the tournament with scores of 78, 77 and 77 for a total of 232.

Warwickshire champion Abbey Gittings (Walmley), a freshman student at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, finished seventh in a good class field of 77 players at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational at Alaqua Country Club in Florida.

Abbey  had rounds of 76, 77 and 73 for a total of 226 over the par-72, 5934yd course. Team-mate Nicole Whitmore, a junior year student from Milton Keynes, came 11th on 230 with scores of 75, 77 and 78. Their very good efforts enabled Nova Southeastern to win the team title by 12 shots

Farther down the field came Melissa Siviter (Belmont Abbey College), a freshman student from Enville, Staffordshire. She shared 41st place with scores of 79, 82 and 83 for 244, which earned her a share of 41st place.

Meanwhile, Hannah Bews (Broadstone) and Emma Tayler (Saunton), finished joint fourth and seventh respectively in a small field of 12 players for the Treasure Coast Women's Classic at Indian Hills Golf Club in Florida. They are both students at Bethune Cookman College, Florida. Hannah had rounds of 74, 75 and 82 for a total of 231 over the par-71, 5805yd course. Emma scored 78, 75 and 83 for a total of 236.
